ARTIST STATEMENT
My artistic practice explores the systems that structure human experience. Through sculpture, assemblage, casting, printmaking, drawing, and photography, I investigate the systems of power, culture, and social organization that shape human experience, identity, behavior, memory, belonging, and agency.
I am interested in systems because they often operate unnoticed despite their profound influence on daily life. Some are external, embedded within public space, social institutions, and cultural mores. Others are internal, manifesting as habits, fears, beliefs, and patterns of thought. My work examines the points where these systems intersect with individual experience, revealing both the opportunities and constraints they create.
Drawing from traditions of the readymade, assemblage, and conceptual art, I frequently employ familiar objects, fragmented forms, and symbolic materials that carry layered meanings. Rather than presenting fixed narratives, I construct situations that invite viewers to engage with ambiguity, make connections, and contribute their own interpretations.
My investigations are informed by influences drawn from art, literature, music, philosophy, and social theory, reflecting my interest in how ideas move across disciplines and shape our understanding of the world.
Themes of access, containment, freedom, vulnerability, memory, and transformation recur throughout my work. Whether addressing public space, identity, trauma, privilege, or personal perception, I seek to create works that encourage reflection on the often unseen structures that influence how we understand ourselves and navigate the world.
I approach artmaking as a process of inquiry, exploration, and dialogue. Rather than providing answers, I create works that invite viewers to navigate uncertainty, make connections, and discover meaning through their own experiences. In doing so, the work becomes a space where the visible and invisible systems that shape our lives can be questioned, reconsidered, and reimagined.
